Your Questions About Web Hosting

Susan asks…
What web hosting provider do you recommend?
I am just wondering what your experience with different web hosting solutions are? I am currently on Just host but am not really satisfied with their service.

admin answers:
Well, I just have a suggestion. I think before you chose a hosting package you should also know if it fits your expectations or not. Read some reviews and do some research. You should also think about the future with your web host. I recommend fatcow and inmotion.

Nancy asks…
what art most important features to look for in a web hosting service?
I am new at web design, and in the process of trying to find a good web hosting service. I plan on having lots of videos and photos on my sites, and was wondering what kind of features are the most important for me to be looking for when searching for a web host. Are some servers faster than others? If so, which are the fastest? And is it better to go with a windows or linux server? Are there any other important features that I need to look for? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

admin answers:
Well, it depends on how much you want to spend.
1. If you’re willing to pay $20+/monthly for hosting I recommend:

http://www.slicehost.com
2. If you want something cheaper I recommend Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html
Their standard price is $119.40/year ($9.95/month if you pay yearly) but they currently have a promotion. You can use the promo code PLUS at sign up page and get the $50 discount + 2 Free domain names. This way you get them for $69.40/year ($5.78/month). You can use their huge Disk Space and host unlimited number of subdomains and domains on a single plan.
Disk space: 500 GB
Bandwidth: 5000 GB
2 Free domain names
Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year)

George asks…
How do you put up a website without paying for web hosting?
Not asking about free web hosting. I mean, how do you setup a website without using a web hosting service. Obviously they run their own website and support other peoples. There can’t just be a never ending chain of web hosts supporting each other. So there should be a way to just buy a domain and host your own website, right?

admin answers:
You can host your own website but it means that you have to have a server, or computer acting as a server running 24hrs a day. Also your ISP may not like you doing this and will restrict, or shutdown your connection. Another thing that you need to consider is that your upload speed is usually significantly slower than your download speed, usual speeds are around 128-384 kbps. This means that if you host a popular site the amount of time it takes for your viewers to view each page will be terribly long to the point of being a victim of it’s own success.
My advice is either use a free hosting service, with it’s downsides or pay for a professional service who can offer significant access speeds.

What is the big difference between ffmpeg hosting and web hosting?
I’m just wondering will I be able to host video sharing website with web hosting. What are the special features of ffmpeg hosting?

admin answers:
FFmpeg is a complete, cross-platform solution to record, convert and stream audio and video. Some people use it when they’re trying to build a niche YouTube-like website.
Most shared web hosts do not support FFMPEG modules or flvtools because they are too processor intensive.
I believe the planet hosting does support FFmpeg. Read a review about the planet here –
